Told you guys I have a short attention span. We are supposed to leave for California today, but a pretty large winter storm may cause a delay until tomorrow. In the meantime, my 32 Ford Coupe project is at a stopping point. Because of that I dug around and got out a kit I started back when I was building the Texaco diorama, but screwed up the paint job. Here is the beginning of the build. As you can see portions of the kit have spent some time in the pond. I chopped the top 4 scale inches, channeled the cab over the frame approximately 4 scale inches and bobbed the bed approximately 9 scale inches. I pulled the dropped front axle out of a 32 Ford kit and altered it to drop an additional 2 scale inches. The tires and wheels are out of the 34 pickup kit. I haven't made up my mind if these tires and wheels will remain or be changed. That's it for now. Hope you guys like it. More to come when we get back from California.

Got back just a little while ago. I'll get some work done on the build tomorrow. I have a few more ideas for it.

Made some progress on the 34 over the weekend. Decided on another RatRod. I will be working on the chassis starting tomorrow. I've decided to change the wheels and tires. Got a set off of a diecast that should work.

Wagonguy: You might want to take a look at my thread on 32 Ford RatRod. Here is how I do the weathering. It is the same for both the body and the frame and is really simple, just time consuming. I made a wash of a rust color paint and just flowed it on the piece being weathered. I let it dry and then used a wash of black color which also is allowed to dry. Follow that with a coat of brushable Dull Coat. While the dull coat is still wet sprinkle the rust and dirt on the piece. When everything is dry use a stiff bristle brush to remove any excess rust and dirt. Finally seal the whole thing with Dull Coat. I make my own rust. Just take several pads of fine steel wool. Break them up into a pan with a cover. Fill the pan to the point that the steel wool is completely covered with water. Cover the pan and let it sit. Every couple of days check the water level and stir the steel wool. In a couple of weeks you with have a pan full of rusty steel wool. Remove the cover and let the remaining water evaporate. After the mess in the pan is dry mash it through a kitchen strainer. The stuff coming out the bottom of the strainer is your rust. I made rust last summer and probably have enough to last me for a year or so. For the dirt I made a trip to the local park's baseball diamond. Our city takes really good care of the parks and maintains the diamond well. I went out to the pitcher's mound and scooped up a jar full of dirt. Took the dirt home and sifted the dirt through my trusty kitchen strainer. This gave me about a year's supply of weathering dirt. I have made some progress on the RatRod so I thought I'd post an update. The frame and chassis are completed other than a bit more aging and some more rust. I made a Mexican blanket using various colored threads and installed it on the seat. The engine is partially completed and installed. There is, of course, still much detailing to do. This is the final stance of the pickup. I hope to have this finished over the weekend. As usual, any comments, criticism and friendly redicule are welcome.
