Well, how can I say this . . . . I just left "another" board . . . and, well, how do I put this, I really don't understand "WHY" a so called "modeler" would pull apart another modeler's work by telling them that the subject they are rendering would "NOT" be legal in NHRA class rules?!?!?!? REALLY!!! Or, "You know that because the linkage does not belong there, the car would not move? ? Come on!! How can I put this . . . . . . "If I build a kit, I am building it for "ME." first and foremostI am building it because I like the idea. it caught my eyeI am building it because it pleases "ME." most of allI am building it to show my friends "IT PLEASES ME!"Reading some of the comments from the "likes" of these "modelers" that take a certain pleasure in ripping apart the time, motivation, and creativity of another's endeavors, just makes me SICK!! In this "world" of today, I can find very few things to "lighten" my cares. To make it along the way. To say, "Whatever to the "Ways of the World!" I would like to have anyone modeling, to feel free to build whatever they want, however they want. Cause to "me" that is the way to build!! To have fun!! To be creative!! TO FRIGGIN' ENJOY IT!! Not that I want it to be said like that! But, the "nay" sayers and ne'er do wells are really sticking their nose's just a little to close to the window. sorry I did not want to stand on the soap box, it's just that, well, constructive criticism is "welcome" knowing your topic of discussion is "good" but, pushing buttons to be a "cow bell," well, that, is just not "NICE!" ;D Thank You for listening, Sound off if you would like, or not. Later Russ

HA, I understand totally. THAT'S the board that criticized a visually impaired member from typing, just typing, in capitals! As they admit, it's not like other boards. Well, who needs folks who have the need to be intolerant on minor matters? Life is too short. Thanx for your "rant.!"

I understand exactly what you are talking about.
I have posted my builds on some boards and people have said that my distributor wiring is wrong and in one case that I put rust on something that was supposed to be aluminium, etc.....
I just take it as someone who is a bit more anal and I make a note of it and maybe I will correct it next time.....if I feel like it, otherwise they can stick their negative comments up their a$$!
But I usually don't allow it to piss me off as I look at their work and could easily pick it apart but I try to be a gentleman about it.
Hang in there buddy. People seem to love putting their misery out to others in the form of negative criticism.

Hey Russ, don't let the A------S get you down. I know of a couple of forums like you are talking about and just don't post to them. It's a shame that a minority like that can make you or me feel they way we do about the forum, but that is just the way some people behave in the relative anoniminity of the web. I have noticed about some of them that they seldom post examples of their own work for some constructive criticism ;D.
I can tell you from past experience, Bill will not put up with such boorish behavior on this forum and the forum is better for it.
When I post to this or any other forum I want and expect CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. It's the way I learn from mistakes. I only returned to plastic modeling a couple of years ago and I certainly would not be at my level of expertise were it not for people like you guys on this forum being willing to help me with information and criticism.
As for the guys that enjoy tearing down your work ------- F--K EM!!! Let's model.
John

I'll be brief...I've dealt with 1 or 2 modelers that rarely post anything positive. They will nitpick a modeler's build to death. When I finish a build-which is not that often-I WANT the good, the bad, and the ugly. But don't tell me that if this was a 1:1 vehicle, susp. Part A "might" tap susp. Part B on the down-stroke! It's not real, it's a plastic kit.

I agree 100% Russ.. The build is being built for the builder. Not everyone is a pro mechanic so to speak. If people want to put things on because it looks good and makes the build look good. So be it. I have been working on cars for a little over 30 yrs and have seen lots of different things go through the era. I see stuff that is not right on builds and I also do the same thing. If it looks like it belongs there who cares. It is what the builder wanted to do. I have seen even at big shows people picking apart stuff. not right hose routing, wrong firing order for the engine, wrong color of motor and so on. I confronted a person at 1 show for doing this due to it starting peving me. He was doing it through the whole table. I ask at a point what he done to make him an expert on model building. I believe he said he worked at resturant..He was there with a friend... So I agree with you that a builder can build the model anyway they want. Just so it makes it fun for them and they are still great to see some detail on the build. It means they are giving it a go and trying.. Even if it don't go there..Build on.... ;D ;D ;D

Ahhh yes...rivet counters Though I do admire a spot on perfect build, I KNOW, that I, and many other builders build it for themselves. I mean look at my kooky builds. I would be laugh off some forums. I always though a private message would succinct rather then outing a person in public to make oneself look smarter is rather rude. I know a few of those. I just ignore them as to not give them any satisfaction. ;D

Well . . . . . . . I am very glad of the "positive responses" to this subject. If I might, I did get "whacked" several months ago at "the" site in question, on a build I had posted, my first ever and last too! ;D And "NO" I was not making it "personal" it did "sting" a little bit, but, I got over it, really I did! But, I was speaking, "NO" ranting, about the fact that several other Builders, of various ages and skill levels, had posted, before that and well after that, that "the" site in question has at least a half dozen of these "buzzards" that seem, at least to me, will circle around till a build is found and then taking "GREAT" delight in tearing the build apart because of some technical issue. Or call them out because they off-handedly said "what-ever." Now, I too, am a believer in "constructive criticism" if in the right manner. I feel that, like many of you as well, that these modeling sites should be a place of learning and sharing and most of all, a place of "CAMARADERIE",yes??? I believe that this is a hobby to be "enjoyed" by "all" modelers, regardless of skill. Because, these sites, should instill a sense of belonging as well as nurture the skills and develop the "desire" to learn and belong, with a bond of friendship for all modelers!! A little over the top, but, "MY" passion for this hobby and those that I share it with are very special to me. I just don't like the fact that some "schmuck" would take something enjoyable and trash it for someone else? That just is not nice! ;D Thank You People! I am done and off the soap box! Later Russ

Amen! Build to please ourselves and if every model isn't "show quality" doesn't mean it can't bring pleasure to the builder and viewers on the web. I'm glad the FUN sites outnumber the negative, restrictive ones and members are kind, generous and helpful. Thanks.
