Here is a quick tutorial on how to do a vinyl top on a model roof.I learned this trick from another forum, and it works really well! First, pick up a can of this 3M Photo Mount spray. I got it at Walmart: Apply it to your smooth plastic roof of choice.Spray like you normally would when you spray paint your models.Let dry.Apply as many coats as you wish to get your desired vinyl top "feel". I did two light coats. Choose your vinyl top color, and lay down a couple of light coats over the dried textured 3M Photo mount top.It will look like this when the paint is dry: Todd

Nice tip Todd. Thanks for sharing... I have been using the spray can bed liner from duplicolour. I will have to give it a try. Steve

You can use strips of thin styrene glued and then sprayed over in Todds artical.... Or this version I have used also. You can spray over this also. modeltech.tripod.com/vinyl_top.htm

Thanks guys! Gangster, although I have no direct proof, I have read that the masking tape vinyl top may not stand the test of time ( it could eventually peel off with aging).Although the author did say his masking tape vinyl tops looked as good as the day he did his at least five years later. Todd

For the seam strip, try using flat black pinstripping tape on a flat black roof, the shoot it with "Flat clear. The clear will lock the tap from the aging factore as well as peeling etc.

Must have had a senior moment when I replied last time. Just thought of saving a penny or 2 on my way.
Lay the pinstrip tape down first, then spray with whatever flat black to similate the vinyl top. NO clear needed the.
Like I said DAH
