I used a MIB 1967 Revell bus to build this 1953 "Barndoor-bus". I had to rebuild the whole back of the body and also redo the front part of the roof. The dashboard was all scratchbuilt from scrap-plastic and Evergreen profiles, a total of approx 50 different pieces!No model company has ever issued the early 1950-55 VW Bus so a lot of scratchbuilding was involved.

I think there were other companies that made it too. I have the Revell I started way back when as a custom, then lost interest. I'm glad u finished this one! It doesn't look like a lot of work, but as u wrote, it really was!
