I liked the look of the Chezoom and the nice lines with the modern look so I wanted to keep with that flow. I also love pickups. This is my version of what would have been an El Camino if it were produced then.
I started with Boyd’s Chezoom, a ’65 El Camino and a ’55 Chevy. I recut the Chezoom hood and cut off from the roof to the trunk. I cut out the engine compartment, wheel wells and windshield bib from the ’55 and added it to the ’57. I cut out the roof and bed from the ’65 and molded it into the ’57. The roof was too long for the ’57 so I shortened it and cut out the T top. I had to cut off the wheel wells in the bed and re-position them to fit and added sheet styrene for a smoother look. I used the interior from the ’55 and shortened it. I used seats from a Ferrari & dashboard from the ’55.
The engine I wanted to keep modern so I used an SSR V8 from a pickup. The paint is Rustoleum Auto touch up, Chrysler Spruce (BTW-very nice line of paint). Interior is white with the Spruce. I used a Chevy emblem from a ’53 on the tailgate. I kept the Chezoom wheels and used the Ferreri tires. Trim is BMF
After cutting the roof off I cut up a ’55 Chevy for the front inner wheel wells and engine compartment. I cut out the front hood, it was all molded in one piece.
After trying several different roofs and ideas I then cut the bed and roof off of a ’65 El Camino to be added on the Chezoom. I needed to add to the roof as it was not long enough.
I cut, sanded, puttied, and primed several times. I also added sheet styrene in the bed to remove the corrigated look and re-positioned the wheel wells.
I decided it needed a T roof. It needs a couple more touch ups and it will be ready for paint.
