Alien Hot Rod
This is the first of a series of 3 space ship vehicles I built so far. Being that this was the first and I didn’t have any system down yet it took me about 100 hours to complete.
How I built it:
Built from two magic markers and an altered Lion King domed night light from the dollar store. I also cut up a Predicta car model for the front and back of the ship.
When I saw the night light in the store I immediately saw a flying saucer from the 1950’s era. I thought it needed some thrusters and picked up the markers. After getting home I looked at my model collection and saw that the rear of the Predicta would look really cool as a rear on the ship. I cut out the side of the nightlight and mounted the thrusters in and scribed and cut the rear of the Predicta into the ship. I narrowed the front of the Predicta and mounted on the front of the ship. I added some wing shaped plastic to each side of the nose for a more spacey look.
I used the seat from the Monogram Cherry Bomb and added sheet styrene to fill in. I then used a Styrofoam plate and created the diamond pleat for the interior. The monitor that protrudes is an altered 1960 Corvette dashboard. I copied and shrunk instrument panels from jets and used them for the dashboard in the ship.
The alien I made from a race car driver and added some futuristic material from my wife’s material box. I added a cone to his head and used crafting beads painted bloodshot for the eyes. I was always a fan of the way Big Daddy Roth drew his characters eyes all big and bloodshot.
For the landing gear I used square stock and fitted pieces of chrome sprue into them and added hub caps from a 1940 Ford at the bottoms.
I painted it Inca Gold and airbrushed the purple.
The base materials:
Nightlight and markers
Predicta
The Body:
I cut the rear of the Predicta and fit it to the body of the nightlight.
I added the modified front from the Predicta to the body and the cut outs for the thrusters.
Puttied, sanded and primed with the fins.
The Interior:
I modified the seat from the Cherry Bomb and added sheet styrene.
I wanted a diamond pleat on all the flat styreme so I used a foam plate and scored the diamond pattern.
Then I fit it on the flat panels.
I used a dash from an old ‘vette and cut off the curved ends and glued them to the TV from the Predicta. This will be put on a post.
I fabricated some side instrument panels out of parts and added some jet gauges.
The Alien:
Modified from a race car driver. I added a cone on his head and bloodshot bug eyes. I also gave him a short trunk. I clothed him in some metallic material I got from my wifes material box. Of course I had to paint him green!
Here he is dressed I changed the sash.
