This is my most recent build. I hope you like it.

’64 Chevy Truck Rod
This picture was posted on another site for inspiration and it inspired me to build it.
I had a ’64 Chevy Truck so that became the patient.
I cut some width and length out of the cab and removed the roof. I don’t know how anyone else does it but I usually evenly wrap a length of masking tape around the body along the cutting line. For this you need to decide what part of the body to remove and still have the remaining pieces fit together. Then with my trusty Dremel with a small thin blade I cut along the line…man I just love that sound! Try to stay as straight and smooth as possible. Once finished lightly sand off the burrs and test fit. If it looks good glue it.
I set aside different frames and pieces of frames(I never toss anything out) and then find the best parts of them to make the frame I am looking for. Cut and test fit them, if something is missing I usually make it out of different size styrene.
Here is the altered body on the piecemeal frame. I added junk tires and motor for reference.
Here is the finished frame. I used part of the original truck frame and parts box pieces and styrene. The front of the frame came from a Cobra. Note the notches are for the interior to sin on.
I couldn’t find the right profile tires so I decided to make some out of PVC pipe.
Sliced and edges rounded and painted
The wheels were made out of different size wheels from different scale cars to fit in the inside pipe diameter.
It was brought to my attention to use a BIC lighter for the fuel tank.
Here it is shortened and in place. Note – be careful removing the butane as it is under pressure.
Here it is puttied and primed.
I needed intakes for the carbs to sit on so I used pieces of a Nascar roll cage for the curved pieces.
I don’t have any other pieces of the engine WIP.
For the front grill I didn’t like the one in the picture so I made a frame out of styrene and shortened the truck grill to fit in.
Rear disk brakes scratch built
The almost complete engine. The pipes are from Vette gasser and I added the curved tips and chromed them with rattle can chrome.
The body work is complete and painted.
The tire tread I couldn’t figure out how to do. I ended up making a tread decal. I had a hard time getting it to be dull and didn’t really succeed.
I made the knockoffs for the wheels
Here we are complete. I could have done better cutting the aluminium stacks where they meet the carbs.....but then again I'm never happy.
