Tijuana Rat - INTERIOR PICS!!

I have been trying to come up with a different take on this classic Tom Daniels design. I first thought of adding full fenders but I saw that someone on another site had recently started one.

I let it stew in the back of my mind for a week or so and came up with a rat type design.

I first cut the frame out of the body and re-mounted it inside the body so it was all even on the bottom. Then I cut up the sides to chop the roof. This was a little intricate as I wanted to keep the oval windows. I removed the material above and below the ovals and put it all back together. I fit the rear axle into the body to put the wheels where I wanted them. I cut off the curved holders for the trunk that comes with the TT and fit them on top of the rear end. I want to put a fuel tank on these pieces.

I have done some more work on this one.

I made the front suspension parts from plastic rod, sheet plastic, a spring and some bits from the parts box.



Here it is assembled with the added steering assembly.





I think I’m going with the tall thin rear tires. I don’t remember where they came from but they are at least 40 years old, I wish I had more of them.






Here is a shot of the rear end. I added the shock mounts.

Some more progress here.

I cut out a sunroof and started weathering the seats. I added a front bench to replace the tractor seat that comes with the kit. I painted the body/frame a red oxide primer for the base color and proceeded to apply the two part rust system. I think I have it as rusted as I want. I will attempt to add some color in certain areas. I made a wooden floor and dash from stained coffee stirrers (not shown).

I finished the interior. All the wood is stained coffee stirrers. I added a scratch built taxi meter for effect. Rusted gauges and a dice shifter top. I wood framed the inside doors and added handles.
